Containment Booms are primarily used to contain spilled oil and minimize its extent, so skimmers, absorption booms or other products and methods can remove the oil from the water. In addition it’s used for stopping and prevent spreading of plastic garbage or other floating objects.
Containment Booms comes in many shapes and sizes, and depending on the water conditions different booms has various level of effectiveness.

Using an incorrect model can make the spilled oil pass the oil boom even if it’s well anchored.
It could depend on strong currents, where the oil pass under the draft skirt. It may also depend on high waves were the oil washes over the boom. With the right model, this can be prevented.
